Security requirements according to DIN 32 757-1:
Security level 2
For documents to be rendered illegible, such as computer printouts or poor photocopies
Strips: 6 mm or narrower
Particles: area of max. 800 mm²
Security level 3
For confidential documents, such as personal data and documents.
Strips: 2 mm or narrower / area of max. 594 mm²
Particles: 4 mm x 80 mm and smaller / area max. 320 mm²
Security level 4
When the confidentiality of documents is essential for the existence of a company.
Particles: 2 mm x 15 mm and smaller / area max. 30 mm²
Security level 5
For confidential documents subject to extremely high safety requirements, such as for government offices or fundamental research.
Particles: 0.8 mm x 13 mm and smaller / area max. 10 mm²
HS Level 6
Maximum security developed by HSM (not yet a DIN standard) - in particular for shredding highly confidential official documents.
Particles: 1 mm x 5 mm or area of max. 5 mm²
